Learning to BREATHE for high school students

Syracuse City School District high school students taking health education class will be randomly assigned by classroom to a mindfulness-based curriculum, Learning to BREATHE. Data (behavioral and questionnaire) will be collected from students, parents, and teacher related to student stress, social-emotional resilience, wellbeing, self-regulation and school behavior.

Sitting Meditation Dosage and Physiological Stress Reactivity

We are embaraking on a study to evaluate the "dosage" (frequency and duration) of sitting meditation practice affect on physiological stress reactivity. This laboratory study will measure participant physiological responses (e.g., heart rate, salivary cortisol) to an acute stress administered in the laboratory following varied dosages of sitting meditation pracitce.

Brief Interventions for Student Test Anxiety

We will conduct a randomized control trial to evaluate the effectiveness of two empirically supported interventions (i.e., mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral) on undergraduate student test anxiety and academic performance. Outcomes data will include self-reports of test anxiety, social-emotional resilience, and academic achievement on mid-term examinations.

Soles of the Feet for disruptive classroom behavior

We will conduct a single-case research design to replicate the intervention effects of a brief mindfulness-based intervention, Soles of the Feet for disruptive student behavior in the classroom. We will be recruiting students from general education settings who display high rates of disruptive classroom behavior that interfere with their learning, and will provide 5 training sessions on a simple mindfulness procedure that teaches a basic skill for how to self-regulate unpleasant emotional experiences.
